Meet Greg Lilly: A Visionary Leader for Abingdon

Greg Lilly is a dedicated candidate for the Abingdon Town Council, bringing years of experience with local municipalities and community service.

His commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Abingdon is evident through his active involvement in various community initiatives. With a strong belief in the power of collaboration, Greg aims to unite residents and foster a spirit of progress and innovation.

He envisions a town where every voice is heard, and every citizen has the opportunity to thrive. Join him in making Abingdon a better place for all!

My experience produced a collection of skills and traits that have prepared me to serve on our Town Council.

My background includes small businesses, corporate technology strategy and contract mediation, arts and tourism, plus working in partnership with municipalities of world-renown travel destinations. These experiences, skills, and traits have shaped me to analyze issues and collaborate with the people affected by the issue to find solutions.

I have been in front of Town Council many times during Public Comments.

I feel like nothing changes.

I feel ignored. Citizens should not feel like the Town Council and Town Staff aren’t listening.

I intend to change that.

I will do my homework. I will ask questions. I will make informed decisions.

I grew up in Washington County and graduated from John S. Battle High School and Virginia Tech.

Corporate Life in Charlotte, N.C.

For almost twenty years, I worked in information technology  in Charlotte, North Carolina. I led projects in analysis and implementation of strategic technology, in hardware and software architecture and integration, and in strategic planning of information systems into the business. I analyzed and negotiated contracts for information systems hardware and software.

Greg Lilly in Sedona
Major Tourist Towns

In 2003, I moved to Sedona, Arizona. I edited a lifestyle magazine and a tourism guide then worked as operations manager for an art gallery. I founded a book publishing business. I served on the City of Sedona’s Arts & Culture Commission. I mapped the city’s strategic plan to the arts and tourism community to gain support from the municipality and from the state agencies.

Moving to Williamsburg, Virginia, I edited and wrote for a monthly magazine profiling the residents of the city. I founded the Williamsburg Book Festival. I served as chair of the Williamsburg Area Arts Commission (Williamsburg, James City County and York County), served as the president of the Triangle Arts & Culture League (supporting and funding public art), and worked closely with the Virginia Commission for the Arts and regional arts commissions. I frequently collaborated with the city manager, economic development director, chamber of commerce, visitors’ bureau, and the regional arts organizations in building the arts experience for Williamsburg citizens and visitors.
